The Children’s Healing Center will host a series of summer camps designed for kids with weak immune systems and their siblings.
Based in the Center’s state-of-the-art facility, the weeklong day camps will offer an opportunity for sick kids to get out of the house and interact with other kids in a safe, clean environment. Themes for each week were developed by the Center’s child development and education team with an eye to mingling education, fun, movement and hands-on activities.
“Our camps are some of the most popular programming we do at the Center,” said Melissa Block, CHC associate director. “For our kids, a traditional summer camp experience isn’t always possible, so we bring that experience to them – in a safe, clean environment.
“Whether children are fans of the outdoors, love science or are brimming with creativity, we have a camp that will allow their imaginations to soar through fun, educational and interactive programming.”
The summer camps include:
• Retro Week (June 26 – 30): Kids will go back through the decades to learn about different eras in history – break out the disco balls and gold dust.
• Design Squad (July 10 – 14): Pack your carpenter angles, pencils and blueprints for this camp where kids will learn about building and architecture.
• Got Science? (July 24 – 28): Chemistry, technology and photography come together for an exciting week that focuses on science and experimentation.
• Smitten with the Mitten (August 7 – 11): Kids will learn about, and fall in love with, all the amazing aspects of our great state. After all, four out of five Great Lakes prefer Michigan.
The camps will be held on from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of their respective weeks. Attendees are welcome to come the entire week or pick and choose days according to their schedules.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, the camps are free and open to children with compromised immune systems and their siblings who are ages 5 and older. Registration is required and must be completed by 5 p.m. one week prior to the start of each camp session.
